Wow! It's great to now be in the 21st century with a quiet heat pump and actually have warm air quietly coming out of quiet vents.
The air conditioner in your home is made up of three main components: a compressor, a condenser and an evaporator coil.
The compressor is located inside of the condenser, which is the unit located outside of your home.
The evaporator coil is located in the unit inside your home and is typically part of the heating system as well.
Refrigerant enters the compressor as a cool, low-pressure gas.
The refrigerant is then compressed and sent out as a hot, high-pressure gas and flows into the condenser.
A heat pump works like an air conditioner in the summer, keeping your home cool by compressing refrigerant, and sending the refrigerant to the indoor coil.
During an Atlanta winter season, a heat pump reverses the process to heat your home.
An electric heat pump can be cheaper than fossil fuel in some areas when the temperature stays well above freezing.
For extreme cold, a gas furnace is definitely more efficient to operate.
Another type of heating for you Atlanta home is hybrid heating using the combination of a heat pump and furnace.
The heater in your home uses one of several different fuel sources: natural gas, LP gas, oil or electric.
If you have a gas or oil furnace, it is made up of four major components: the burner, heat exchanger, blower and controls.
The process of heating your home starts when the temperature inside drops below what the thermostat is set to.
This prompts the igniter to light the burner which creates heat.
The heat is pushed into the heat exchanger, heating the air around it, and then through the ducts to heat your home and continues until the desired temperature is reached.
