Growing up in the rural logging town of Kamiah, Idaho, and working summer breaks for area ranchers imprinted a strong work ethic and small-town values in me as a youth.
Our only bathroom facilities, until I was six, was an outhouse.
I learned later that visiting friends and family were a little horrified by the lack of indoor plumbing.
I just thought it was the way everyone lived.
It's a little ironic that I've gone on to a career in plumbing.
In 1989, after graduating from high school, I continued my education with a degree from the University of Idaho, majoring in public relations with a minor in business.
Our only bathroom facilities, until I was six, was an outhouse.
