When I had the chance to save money and do my part in improving our climate it was a no brainier for me. Love to show of my unit and my bills to friends and family. Geothermal heating and cooling systems take advantage of the natural, even temperature several feet beneath the Earth's surface. A loop of pipes is installed underground, which circulates water.
In the winter, these water pipes absorb the relative heat beneath the earth and deliver it to a heat pump, which warms your home. In the summer, the reverse of this happens because the temperature underground is cooler than the outside air. This year-round heating and cooling provides excellent energy efficiency, because your comfort system does not have to work so hard to deal with the extreme temperatures of our area.
There are four basic types of ground loop systems. The type that is best for your home or business depends on the climate, soil conditions, available land, and local installation costs at the site.

As our Midwestern seasons take us through drastic temperature changes, the temperature of our earth (only 4 to 6 feet underground) stays pretty much the same year round.
A geothermal heating & cooling system is designed to utilize these constant temperatures as a free and renewable energy source.
In the cold winter months, underground pipes (we call them loops) absorb stored heat from the earth and move it indoors using a heat pump.
