Even with its modest beginning on the north side of the Effingham County courthouse, the business flourished.
A mere two years later, Cletus moved his shop to a newly constructed site on South First Street.
After World War II, during the great building boom of the 50's, Merz enjoyed unprecedented growth.
By 1968, Merz Sheet Metal had become affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Sheet Metal Workers.
